no sound on laptop

since I downloaded realplayer can't get sound via internet, cd's keyboard nothing not a bleep - well only from me! is it in conflict with windows media player? I've checked the most obvious boxes

In device manager, check for any yellow exclamation marks under sound and audio devices

install the driver for your sound card!
