BT Yahoo Secure Intelligent Landing Page
      #330591 - Sun Feb 04 2007 11:43 PM

My first post so forgive me if this has been covered.

I have been attempting to set up my daughters PC via BT pay as you go dial up connection. The same fault has appeared on two new and seperate PCs which work fine everywhere else excpet her home and telephone connection.

The line has been checked via the operator and am told there is no fault between her home and the exchange.Today an automated check told us the line was disabled, as I was using the phone to check at the time it obviously wasn`t.

The free phone help line is wonderful for asking questions, until you want an answer then your redirected to a premium rate number in India. Which when using a mobile becomes expensive and as they didnt know what I was talking about useless as well.

Today Sunday the same problem arose as I tried again to set it up, at a alternate address to check out the Pc hardware and software installations it worked fine and connected no problem both via dial up and broadband.

Upon seting it up at her home, we again to my horror got redirected to the Secure Intelligent Landing Page and kept getting disonnected as the connection failed.

Being Sunday BT help desk is no help, UNTIL Monday and I don`t anticipate much help then either if last times have been an indicator.

This is becoming an infuraiting and ridiculous problem.
Her pc is running Win XP and a Pentium 3 with 256 ram.

Any help appreciated.

First step is to check that the telephone line is working properly and has a normal dial tone. When you plug a normal phone into the socket do you get a continuous dial tone with no breaks? Do you have any special services on that line, for example withholding your own number when you make a call so that the person at the other end can't see your number? Do you have any other services plugged into the t/p line via an extension such as Sky?

You know the number that is being called via the modem. Use that number on your telephone and listen to the result. You should hear some high pitched whistles and burbles indicating that the server at the far end has answered. If you don't get that, what do you get?

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Thanks for the fast response, I spent time today once again on the telephone to BT which was spent mostly chosing touch tone selections and listneing to someone telling me how important my call was and music. Eventually I asked for an engineer to call as it definately wasn`t a PC problem,at this point the lady advised me that I should be sure it wasa line fault of a BT problem as call out charges would apply, when I asked how much I nearly died on the spot, £190 call out, then 0ver £90 per hour labour plus Vat. I thought she was joking, but she wasn`t.
I chose to ring the premium rate tech help line again in India 50p per minute, the guy this time was very helpful so long as I spoke slowly and spelled some words.

I had result though, he told me that three possible reasons existed for the problem of this page appearing.

1) password was wrongly entered
2) user name was not recognised
3) pay as you go account have different telephone number, if connecting via a non bt line you must enter the prefix 1280,, then the dial number, or if from a bt line you prefix the dial number with 1470,,

I hope this helps someone else with this infuriating, time consuming and expensive problem.

So at long last after changing the prefix and dial number from the ones given on the BT Installation disc it works.
Pity BT couldnt give the correct information at the start.
