Jerky video capture

Hi, I use AverMedia Ezmaker USB2 video capture device to record video from TV and my digital video camera, through Windows Movie Maker. On my laptop the resulting file plays smoothly, yet on my desktop PC, using the same settings, the file playback jumps and jerks. Anybody any idea what could be causing this?
