CoD2 problem.
      #328499 - Wed Jan 24 2007 07:54 PM

I have just started using a TFT monitor and set the CoD2 options to the native resolution of 1280 X 1024 , Refresh at 75Hz (also tried it at 60Hz) and the Aspect ratio to "Auto".

I can play fine and it looks great, my problem starts when i close the game and enter the same server again, the settings have gone back to 1024 X 768 , refresh 60Hz and Aspect "auto".

These are the settings i used to run my CRT at , has anyone any ideas why it will not keep the first settings ?

The game still looks great at 1024 so its not a big problem i just cannot understand why it will not keep the higher settings.

TIA.

Did you use your graphics card or the menu built into the screen to change the resolution?

I used the g/card to alter the settings as its the same resolution I'm using for the desk top.

I found a way round it ,and it seems to be working, i would like to know why having set the in game settings to my preferred set up it didn't keep them when i quit the game.
Having use Google to try and find the answer it seems i may never find out.

Heres how i fixed it.

I went into the CoD2 /main / players / my name folder and edited the config_mp cfg file to the settings i want and it seems to work.

I would guess the game is set up in such a way that it sets your resolution back to a standard that's built into the software when you exit the game.

I have my desktop resolution as 1280 x 1024, however when I had the game installed on my PC I used 1600 x 1200 resolution, however I changed these settings within the game video options. Whenever I exited the game my desktop resolution stayed at 1280 x 1024 and when I entered the game at a later date the settings in game reverted to 1600 x 1200.

Next noob question.

Ive been trying different resolutions on my 17 inch LCD , if i put it in 1024x768 which i always ran the 17 inch CRT at it looks awful as the icons are huge and so is the text.
If i put it in the next up (1280X1024 which is its highest) the icons and text are much smaller, at first i didn't like it and i felt like it was making my eyes strain.
I also found it very bright and its taken a while to get a good balance of brightness, contrast and Gamma.
Today i have tried moving the screen to wards the front of the desk and to the back and i think i have found the perfect spot.
It seems to be taking a while to get adjusted to the LCD ,is this because i have never used a LCD screen before ?
I find it great for gaming and it looks great at 1280X1024.

Yes it will feel odd with the higher res settings, most people find 1280 x 1024 difficult to read and end up reverting back to 1024 x 768. For me it's too big.

Ensure that you have the highest refresh rate your monitor supports and also try the clear type setting under the Appearance settings tab, advanced options.

Does the monitor have any auto adjust settings on it?

Your video card does this have any settings too?

I have the clear type option set to yes.

The monitor has auto adjust but i used the vid cards settings to get it just right.

I have it just about perfect and as you say 1024 is way too big and looks a mess.
The more i use it the better the highest res looks, the text can be a bit small and takes getting used too,i use IE7 so i can click in the bottom right of the screen to increase the text size but again it looks a mess at 125%.
I will stick with 1280 x 1024 and get used to it.
