I don't use a laptop, so I'm not sure that I can help, but I'll try! What is your screen refresh rate? To find out, go to Control Panel>Display>Settings tab, click on "Advanced", then on the Monitor tab and see what your screen refresh rate is set to. It should be at least 72 Hertz. Mine's set to 75 Hz and it doesn't flicker like it did when it was set to 60Hz. Also make sure that there's a tick in the box "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". I've got a desktop PC with a CRT monitor, so it may not be the same for you.

If your monitor supports a higher refresh rate then you can change it, follow the instructions in Madeline's post.

In my last post, I mentioned that you should make sure that the box saying "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is ticked. If it is, you'll only get rates that your monitor can display in the drop-down menu under Screen refresh rate. Mine shows 60, 70, 72, 75 or 85 Hertz. 60 is much too low; I was using another PC recently where the refresh rate was set at 60 Hertz and the flickering was dreadful; I'd forgotten how bad it could be. That sort of thing can cause both headaches and eye strain, so change yours to a higher setting as soon as possible, at least 72 Hz. Just click on the rate you want to change to in the drop-down menu, then on "Apply" and "OK". By the way, I don't think it makes any difference that you've got a laptop!

If there's just 60hz then that's the maximum your monitor supports, you can't make it go any higher AFAIK.

You said in the OP it was working fine,if you didn't changed any settings before the problem started it looks like its faulty, take it back to the shop.

If you have only the option of 60Hz, you shouldn't change it to anything else or you might damage your laptop. It doesn't sound right to me though, so do as maxping says and take it back to the shop. Something's wrong somewhere and you should be able to get it sorted free as it's new.

Actually, it seems that it does! My daughter rang me yesterday and I got her to have a look on her laptop. She has only the option of 60Hz too, but her screen doesn't flicker or go fuzzy. It definitely looks as if there's a fault on your laptop, so get it checked as soon as you can!
