I've got a new laptop (HP DV9030EA) and there's been a number of times where I have come to my laptop and the battery is dead. At first I thought it was something wrong with the battery, but as soon as I plug it into the mains and turn it on, the first thing I see when I get into windows is a "plug your laptop in the mains" warning message. When I leave the laptop or prepare to put it into my bag I have always ensured that it's switched off (usually in hibernate).
I've checked windows and the bios and I can't find any "wake on LAN" option at all, assuming maybe this is the cause of the problem, and I've scanned my laptop for viruses and trojans and have come up with nothing.
I'm still going to continue my efforts to find out what's causing the problem (Tonight I put the laptop into hibernate while I was playing a local MP3, so that way I can tell if it comes back out of hibernate again) but I would really appreciate any help regarding this problem. I'm starting to think perhaps I should remove the battery every time I turn it off but I really shouldn't need to do that. It's had me baffled so far!
Thanks in advance!

Hibernation mode does not turn the laptop off. As in the real world, an animal hibernating is still alive and so is your laptop. The battery will still be drained over time. Switch it off using the normal shut down procedure.

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

I think you're referring to Stand by. There's no energy expenditure in hibernate.
[[ UPDATE ]]
My laptop turned itself on again this morning at 6:45am. I know this because I deliberately set it to continue playing a loud MP3 when it does. After a rude awakening, I checked it over and spotted that media centre was trying to update it's TV guide over the internet (with the wifi switch off and the laptop not connected to any network, that'd be difficult), so I'm wondering if it's this that's turning my laptop on all the time.
I've turned off that facility now and will try my plan overnight again to see if it happens once more! However, just in case I'm wrong and it does it again, can anyone suggest anything else?
Thanks again!
