I have a Toshiba S1000-Z2 laptop. I've checked my Toshiba Power Management settings and everything looks ok. However, I have the following problems:
1. While the battery sometimes works it mostly either a) only lasts 60 seconds OR b) doesn't kick in at all (e.g. just had a power cut and pc went completely dead losing everything).
2. I have the Toshiba Power Settings to go into standby if the lid is closed, but when I close the lid the whole thing shuts down losing any unsaved work
3. Sometimes, when I have left the laptop switched on and connected overnight, I come back to it and nothing I do will get the screen to illuminate. I can just about see that there is stuff on the screen and if I shine a powerful light on it can select shut down. The only way to get it working is to completely shut down and remove the battery.
Any help appreciated, Barry

START > CONTROL PANEL > POWER OPTIONS > SELECT ALWAYS ON
Select TURN OFF MONITOR - after 20 minutes
System Standby & Turn off hard discs - never

You don't have Power Options in the control panel? If yes, are you telling me your options are as I describe above?

if I try to open Power Options it's shaded out and has a message "please use Toshiba Power Manager", which is on the same control panel and has different options.

This is really winding me up - can anyone help? I'm sure I have Toshiba Power Management settings set up correctly. I've just had a nother power cut (I'm in the Pennines) and the battery did not kick in.

G'day Bazza.
I would give the battery a checking. You might find it not performing to good.

Using the Toshiba Power software, does it not give you the option to change the settings or can you uninstall this software?

G'day bazza.
I sent my reply in responce to the info you gave.

If a battery only last 60 secs and it's 4years or more old try another battery and see if the same is still happening.
