New site - anyone used it??
      #32348 - Sun Jan 04 2004 08:03 PM

I discovered a great new site and am happy to share it with everyone.

It's a completely free auction site - basically eBay without the fees!!!!

http://www.ok2bid.com

Please let me know what you think and if you've used it as I'm really sick of paying auction fees and could do with a change!

Happy New Year everyone.

Try this link http://ok2bid.com/.

So how do they make a profit? I had a quick look at some of the computer stuff on sale. A couple of things caught my attention. Halfway down the page someone was selling a Pop Up Stopper. The same vendor was also offering a bit further down the page a Pop Up Generator!! Also on sale was a Year 2000 software fix.

I would be a bit wary of joining in just yet as the site has only been live since December 2003. Give it a chance to settle down.

Hi,

I emailed the site owner with this question on your behalf. He said he is simply sick of paying eBay fees and believes he's not the only one!

He is running the site in the hope of building up a large customer base and then collecting revenue from banner advertising exactly as eBay and many other sites (including this one) already do.

In my opinion this means there is all the more reason to support him - I am a total believer in private enterprise and am personally reaping the benefits of free advertising already.

Hope this explantion seems as reasonable to you as it does to me.

Cheers,
Gilly

Thanks for the response. I too applaud his initiative in trying to compete with the big boys. Yes I can see Ebay charges are high but at the end of the day they must be charging what the market will bear otherwise they would go out of business. I will watch with interest the progress of this new auction site.
