I've had a USB modem for about 1 year now working fine, all of a sudden I keep getting an error message saying the 'USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded power limits'. The USB does just nor work anymore and therefore I cant connect to the internet. I've read posts telling me hot to get rid of this message but this doesn't help me reactivating the USB port. How come it can work fine for a year and then just stop working completely.

First things I would do, is check your ports using another USB device (MP3 Player, Memory stick, printer, etc) to see if they work, or if you can get your hands on a another USB modem try that. It could be that the modem has died? You could also check in device manager to see if you have a yellow "!" next to your modem, or USB ports.
