Hi, I would be grateful for advice please. My Toshiba laptop dvd/cd drive has stopped working. I can hear it searching/whirring but does not pick up on anything put in the drive (DVD,CD etc) It is a Mashita DVD-Rom UJ-820S (which may mean something to someone out there!) I can only assume that the optical part is not recognisng anything and that the drive will have to be replaced. Is this correct? Where would I get a replacement? What would be the approx cost? Is it straight forward to refit a replacement. I would be pleased if anyone could help. many thanks JDA

On a laptop sometimes when this happens, I have overcome the problem, but it will not always work, by gently rubbing a piece of tissue on the exposed reading lens in the CD/DVD tray when it's in the out position to clear dirt and filth. You have to be very careful when doing this.
This may work, or you could purchase a lens cleaning disc very cheaply. It could be a number of things, this is just another option.
Good luck.
