My advent has developed a strange problem; when I open the screen more than 90 degrees it goes black, otherwise it's fine. I believe this is a LCD switch problem. The question is: where is the switch, how do I get to it, and is it easily repairable if say it is dirty? TIA.
It is more likely to be the wiring loom from the laptop 'base' to the monitor. It's a common fault with laptops. With the 'lid' being constantly opened and closed, the wires are vulnerable to breakage. A visit to your local repairer will advise on solutions. Worst case a new loom.
But I get a perfect screen as long as I don't open much beyond 90 degrees. Does this not mean that the wires must be OK and that the problem is the switch perhaps jamming beyond a certain point?
As I said above it's a common fault with laptops. Sometime ago my Sony laptop had the same symptoms as yours. Just don't open it too wide and it would be fine. After 9 months of suffering this problem, decided to get it looked at and sure enough it was the wiring loom. It may not be that problem with yours, but it is likely to be. Whether you persevere with problem and maybe continue to prop the front of your machine up with books or with what ever to view the screen at a better angle is down to you. One thing for sure, it won't mend itself.
Thanks again for the trouble of replying. You're absolutely right of course, I'll need to get it looked at; I was just confused as to why it won't work beyond the angle. (And it's propped up on a paperback as I speak.)
