I wondered if anyone could help, My father's PC has a frozen cursor when he turns it on and it does not allow anything to be done, He has Norton Antivirus and runs windows XP. His PC was very slow prior to this (it has quite a full hard drive) Is it likely to be a virus that has caused this? Thank you in advance.
Frogg.
ETA I thought maybe it is a mouse problem, he had a wireless mouse but he has tried a different one and also ensured that the batteries are charged and still has the same problem.

G'day Frogg.
You may have answered your own question. How much HDD space is vacant.

Has your father tried defragging his hard drive? I don't know whether that would help, but it's worth a try. A Disk Cleanup wouldn't come amiss either. You can find both Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter by going to Start>All Programs >Accessories>System Tools.

The problem might be bad enough that he can't run defrag because that process itself needs a minimum amount of empty space to run. If the cursor has stopped it sounds as if his swap file is no longer big enough either. Time for some major surgery, methinks.

That's true enough. I used A PC running XP Pro recently which was very slow, it had a 20GB HD with only 1.6GB free space. I analysed it in Disk Defragmenter and I've never seen so much red! This person repairs PCs for a living! I suppose it's a case of "cobblers' shoes".
