Hiya,
I would just like abit of advice for a friend if possible. He has a laptop, windows xp professional, with all of the updates (IE7, SP2 etc etc), he runs AVG, Zone Alarm, and has Adaware, Spybot which he runs regularly. I am sure he has a Pentium 3 processor, but unsure as to the other specs of the machine!
Other than those programs, there is nothing else on his laptop as in photo's, music or games etc.
Anyway, he plays on William Hill Poker site. When he is in a 6 pack game (6 people sat at a table) and he looks in task manager his CPU usage runs at about 30%, however when he is playing in a 10 pack game (10 players sat at a table) his computer starts to run really slowly, and the cards get dealt so slowly sometimes he misses his hand because he is so far behind on the game! when he checks his CPU usage in task manager whilst in a 10 pack game it is running at 100%????
Has anyone got any ideas why his cpu usage goes to 100% when playing in a 10 pack game? Is it to do with peer to peer connections? i.e more people connected, makes his pc work harder? (not very technical I know lol) It is frustrating for him as his pc runs ok the rest of the time, just as soon as he plays a 10 pack poker game it runs in slow motion!
Thanks in advance, any help on this is most appreciated

I would say it's down to it being an issue with more players playing.
I've had a look at the site and you need to download software to play. Just to check, that he has the latest version of the software?
What's his system spec, including internet speed?
Has he looked at what process is running the highest when playing the game?

Hiya,
Thanks for the reply mouse, yeah he is running the latest version of the software.
His internet speed is 500kbps (0.5mbps), and he is on broadband with Karoo. From what I remember his laptop has 256mb ram with a 10-20gb HD. I am unsure as to the speed of the processor but I do know it is a Pentium 3.
Like I said, he doesnt have any music, pictures or games installed on his laptop which would otherwise slow it down, what other things should I be looking at?
I have asked him which process is running when his computer runs at 100% and he thinks it is explorer but is going to check later.
Thanks again for your help, I just think it is strange that it can have such an impact on his pc speed whether it be 6 or 10 people playing. I assumed you would connect to William Hill via the software installed on your pc and that would be your speed? He said as soon as he plays a 10 pack his fans etc start working overtime aswell (like an AVG scan has started or something, which it hasnt)
Peace

I think his machine, might be at the minimum spec standard and this is what the issue is. Maybe time to ask Santa for a new laptop

on poker.com you can reduce the graphics reqd as they can be very resourse hungry, try going to settings and see if there is an option to run the game at best performance instead of best graphics.
