Recycle Bin Problem?
      #319502 - Tue Dec 05 2006 02:38 PM

Hi ALL, Hope you can advise?

The recycle bin on my desktop shows there is a file in it, but i cannot see any?

when i try to empty it a pop up says:

"Are you sure you want to delete "WINDOWS"?"

This has been happening for quite a while now, i have clicked no & yes, on yes a pop-up asks:

"cannot delete dc 10:Access is denied
Make sure the disc is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use"

IS the bin trying to delete the XP operating system?

I have looked for hidden files but none show?

Can someone advised Please,

Many Thanks

David..............

Have you deleted something from an external source that is currently not connected, e.g. a USB stick or HDD?

If you have, just plug it back in and the deleted files will appear in the 'bin'.

Thanks BurrWalnut,

I have only used a camera/media player, I have done as you have suggested but nothing appeared in the bin?

It must be spyware then. Run your antivirus/antispyware and see if it picks up anything.

Take a trip to the HiJackThis forum for a process of elimination.

This appears to be a common problem if you google with 'Are you sure you want to delete windows' and there doesn't appear to be an obvious solution, but a long shot that seems to have worked in some instances is to right click on the recycle bin, click properties and click OK (without changing anything)

Thanks Smudge,
I've tried the properties but it hasn't solved the problem, the "bin" still shows there is something in it? but no file/s inside?

All i can do for now is to use the Hijackthis forum, i don't think this will show anything but i have nothing to lose but to try so thanks Fusion, i will do this at the weekend and get back to this post if it works/shows any solution?

Thanks for all your time,

ps if you/any other person has any other ideas please post,

Again Many Thanks

David

It was a long shot but do as Fusion suggests and post a HJT log. At least if that comes up clean you know the problem lies elsewhere.
