Suddenly a few days ago a large list of things that I want appeared in my head. Most of these are for the computer and one is for me, a DVD Player since I need to catch up with technology. I've recently got a lot of things that connect via USB ports and plan to get some more things in future, but I only have 2 ports. I could do with some kind of USB Adapter and I came across a USB Hub. What I want to know is, are they any good or am I better of paying for another 2 ports that can be fitted inside my compter? Thanks.

If it's any help Owen, I bought a 6-port Belkin USB hub last January for £24.95. All the ports are in use and it has been totally trouble free all that time. I reckon it's the cheaper option. I'm sure others will have their own views. How have you managed up till now with only 2, that's what I want to know!!

I just wanted to check that they work ok. I'm after a Belkin Mini Hub from Argos at £20. I'll add that onto my list of things then. Thankyou

Make sure that if you do get a hub that it is a powered one, and that it is a USB 2.0 device. Some USB devices require that power is supplied, so I would be tempted to install a PCI controller if you do have a spare PCI slot, to avoid that particular problem.
You can pick up a four port PCI USB 2.0 card for about £25

Which would be better a Hub or one that slots into PCI slot? I know that Hubs are a lot cheaper (I found one here) than ones that fit into the PCI slot. Thanks.

The liink is to an unpowered hub which means there are SOME devices that will not work properly such as ADSL modems, scanners and printers. All these require some power source and the hub linked to would not be adequate for such devices, hence my recommendation for the PCI card.
The other advantage is that although you would be installing a 4 port hub, you would only be gaining 3 ports as you would require one of your existing ports to plug the hub into, whereas with the 4 port PCI card you would be gaining all 4 ports

The PCI card sounds a lot better then. I do have an ADSL Modem and A Webcam and A Portable Storage Device which I want to plug in at the same time. My printer and scanner both use a parallel port (I only have one and thats annoying). I've found this card and this card. I understand what a PCI card is and how it fits in but where are the PCI slots located so I can see if any are spare? Thanks.

If you look at the back of your PC you will see some metal blanking plates about 4 inches long and about 1/2 inch high. There is normally a PCI slot behind each one of these plates but to be sure you will need to take the cover off your PC and check on the MB.
