When Windows Vista becomes available to buy will it upgrade on a failed validation Windows XP?

I don't know, but I doubt it. If you can't validate your copy of Windows XP, it's probably an illegal version. If you think that's not the case, contact Microsoft in case you've been sold an illegal copy. If it turns out that your version of Windows XP isn't legitimate, I think you'd have to buy a full version of Vista, rather than an upgrade, and do a clean install of it.
