I have been working with this problem for two weeks now without success. I had no problem copying from Yahoo email and pasting into a MS Word document prior to this. I did not intentionally add any programs to my computer and no new programs are showing in the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs. I am running SpySweeper, Norton Internet Security and clean and repair my system daily with a program called Advanced Windows Care V2. This last program removes all temporary files from the system. I have repaired Word two times. I have automatic updates on for Windows XP (Home Edition), SpySweeper, Norton, and Office. The day my copy and paste stopped working I received an update from Office (It might only be a coincidence?). I have tried to delete and also rename the Normal.dot file.
I can copy from Yahoo email with no problem. It copies to the Office Clipboard without incidence. If I copy to the Notepad it copies easily as well. When I try to paste this copied information into Word, the Word program says that the Program is not Responding. I can paste into Publisher, Powerpoint and even Excel; therefore, I feel the problem lies within the Word program itself. I have tried to restore to four different times without success, leading me to believe that maybe some undetected virus attached to some supporting Word Software or embedded into the registry. With three or four programs looking at this virus scenerio how could it have been missed? I need this function badly and the Ctrl keys don't work either. Oh, one last thing: I can copy the information from the notepad and paste it instantly into Word after I copied from the email to Notepad. I cannot copy from the Office Clipboard; it is just blanked out on the taskbar and the right click and movement across the information on the clipboard will not highlight. I have a Compaq Preario desktop computer with an AMD Sempron 3100+ CPU. With 1GB memory, three harddrives and loads of security and cleanup software, how can the system have a virus? LOL... I run IE7; I just upgraded from the previous explorer (both the old and new version had the same copy and paste problem.). I upgraded because I thought that maybe IE was the problem. Can someone suggest another step to repair this most needed copy and paste function? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Have you tried the Edit > Paste Special function on the Menu Bar? This may help in the short term till you find a satisfactory solution.

I meant to add this to my original post; I did try to paste special. The same result occurs with the Program not Responding message. Thank you

This is an additional posting to the copy and paste problem with Word. I have the Works program still active on this computer from the package that came with the original purchase. I activated Works, loaded Yahoo Mail into another window and opened Works to a New Document. I copied from Yahoo Email; then, instantly pasted into the new Works document. I did copy and paste for about half and hour with no problems in Works. I thought something might have been changed in Word due to my loading of the Works software; however, when I tried to copy from email and paste into the any Word document (existing or new), three words did paste after about a minute. If I tried a couple of sentences, Word always stopped responding, shut the program completely down without asking and the error page would be sent to Microsoft. Anyway, back to the temporary Works thing, I built up several pages of Works, saved the document then opened it up in Word. The Works program is only a basic wordprocessor; therefore, when I opened the document in Word, it took a long time to correct all the errors (LOL). I saved the document as a Word file and it prints and opens fine from Word. I know it must be the Word program settings that is causing this copy and paste problem??? HELP!!! Thank you all again. Steve

Do a search for normal.dot and delete it then try again.
