Geocities Stuff

I'm still a newbie at this web building stuff and there's a couple of points that I've tried to figure out in Geocities PageBuilder and which are still driving me nuts ... hope someone can help.

1. How do I create 'links' ... As some of my pages are quite long (understatement!), I'd like a list at the top of the page which, when clicked, link to a title further down the page. I'd also like to link other pages to certain points on a page (i.e. "See 'Fireplace Farce' [point on page] in 'Other Stuff [other page]" ... if you see what I mean.

2. I have no backup of my website, which alarms me somewhat as its a large website. How do I 'download' it all onto my hard disc (Geocities doesn't seem to allow this, or am I missing it somewhere).

Right, its taken me five solid hours of searching the internet, but I've finally found how to link a portion of page to a listing at the top of the page:

I'm allowing myself three days to figure out how to link from another page, and how to download my entire site onto my computer ... but, in the meantime, if anyone can offer any hints or tips, I'd be HUGELY grateful ...

Hi Debbie,

Possibly the easiest way to create a backup on your harddrive would be to use an Offline Browser like HTTrack Website Copier.

It's as easy as entering your site's root URL (www.geocities.com/whatawaytoearnaliving) and it will download the content onto your C: Drive.

Nothing is a problem for me...

Thanks for that, Fat-C. I downloaded it and (a) maybe its festive alcohol abuse that's rotted my brain, or (b) Geocities won't allow it, but the software won't work and keeps coming up with error messages. I eventually resorted to using Save As to my hard disc, so at least I have a copy.

Also (for any PageBuilder folks out there) I finally figured out how to link text from one page to a certain part on another. Highlight text to be linked, go to LINK button, choose 'My page' and, at the end of your page name add "#[name of anchor link]" ... this is assuming you've already done all your anchor links (see above). If anyone needs any help with Geocities PageBuilder, give me a shout - I've researched PB to death on the internet and now have a comprehensive list of really good help sites.
