I'm compiling a top 10 list of smart tips to get the most from the Web User forums and who better to contribute than you the forum user!
Post your most useful tips for using Web User forums below and I'll compile the best into a sticky post for new users on the Welcome board, with a credit for those who contributed.

Explain to them that they never need to post their email address on the site and tell them how to use the PM system & how to look for the flashing envelope to see if they received one.
Also if they are having trouble finding a post they have made to click on who's on line & then their user name to see their profile including posts made by themselves.

When we insert a link, some people still put it as:
http://www.webuser.co.uk
Where it is so much neater to have Web User
A tip on how to do that or/and how to put pictures in their posts would be good
I tried typing the instructions up but when I do, it changes in this post.

How to Identify Moderators and Admin (tags) Ways of alerting the same To issues or such as Flames ,spammers and the alert button location
Also Heads-up postings if an outside agency problem such as a malfunctioning site server? Or unaxpected Pop-ups on a site link from links to this site

In no particular order...
- If you start a new thread, don't use a vague title like "Help!". A title which describes the problem will attract more readers and so increase your chances of finding a solution.
- Don't type in CAPITAL LETTERS as it's seen as SHOUTING & sAv d txt spk 4 yor fone, k?
- Add as much relevant detail as possible to your question and describe what, if anything, you've done in an effort to fix the problem. Relevant details could include things like your operating system (Windows 98, XP, Vista, etc.) the name and version number of any affected programs, when the problem started and what changes you have made recently.
- If you find the answer to your own question, please come back and add the answer to your own thread so that others can learn from your experience.
- Almost all of the forum members who answer questions are unpaid volunteers and a simple "Thank you" isn't too much to ask for all the time and effort that might have gone into fixing a problem.

If their post states "This Topic Has Been Moved", clicking on those words takes them to where the post has been moved.

If you want to post examples of BBcode (Instant Mark-up), there's a trick to that too - add an extra pair of BBcode tags after the first square bracket in the first of the example BBcode tags. So, for example, this...
[[b][/b]img]imageaddress[/img]
..would display this:
[img]imageaddress[/img]

I know that the webuser forums have used the software for running these forums for quite some time.
So maybe it's time for a spring clean - and change the software to one thats more intuitive to use (now comes the really controversial bit - look at something like vBulletin® Version 3.0.16 it's neater, more intuitive, IMO better).
Little things like, if one of the mods thinks a thread has been started in the wrong forum, why leave "this message has been moved" message in the "wrong" place. Just move the damn thing and then get the mod to put a note in the thread at it's new location saying who moved it and why (which I'd guess is what you'd do if you closed a thread for some reason).
Plus, searches under vBulletin are so much easier, less confusing/more straight forward. The thread originator or a subsequent poster can find their posts so much easier - it's easier to follow up on a subject you've either started or contributed too.
You can still have all the ad's etc that you want for revenue generation etc.
I'm sure it's worth thinking about, because as far as I can see, it's "win win" both sides i.e us lot and webuser.
Just my 2 pence worth.

A couple of things. These forums have recently had a major upgrade and are vastly improved because of it. I don't think any big changes are likely for some time now. I think it's good that the "this message has been moved" is put in the place of the original posting. It's a clickable link which will take anyone to the new location. This is particularly helpful to a new user on this site who may not only be new to WU, but also a PC novice. If a post is moved with no notice left at the original location, a new user may not know where to look for their post and might even think it had been removed for contravening some rule or other.
Don't assume that everyone has your level of knowledge; we were all novices at some point, I certainly was when I first registered here. Anyone, regardless of experience, can ask for help and advice here, but it's especially useful for people who are new to PCs. I dread to think what my PC would be like if I hadn't come here - unusable probably. The point is that you have to apply the "lowest common denominator" principle and make things easy for people with minimal knowledge.
Finally, I have visited vBulletin sites and they're fine, not easier - just different.

What I would like to see is a button to click on if you wanted to see all the posts since your last visit,set on the main page of the forums.OK,I can see all my posts by clicking on Who`s online, but it would be so much quicker and easier if there was a dedicated button to click on when you first arrive at the website.And also,most of the time I do not want to see ALL of my posts,just the latest ones from the threads I have posted in.
Apart from that small thing there is not much wrong here and I find it a very good forum with everything easy to find.

Is it time to prune the User List? Perhaps by deleting those folk who have not posted anything for 18 months or more, or never posted anything.
