On my old PC I had Winzip...my grandson installed it.
Now I have XP home on the new Evesham (a little plug!) and I wonder if it is necessary to have one.
My main interests on the PC are music, making MP3s from audio discs, making audio compilations, storing my music library (about 12 GB). I also am starting out into digital photography.
I do not want to clutter up my machine with unnecessary programmes, so would appreciate your advice. I did take Bricat's advice and hovered over "new" in the file section and the zip thingy came up, but when I opened it , all I found was a blank screen, which made me wonder what use that was!
I await your comments.

Actually no, because Xp has it's own built in compression/decompression application. It isn't Winzip, but if you don't use zip much, then it is adequate!

I don't see where "clutter" is an issue here. Winzip, or a similar program, is a few K, so what's the problem? Also the XP compression tool won't cover every file type out there, so it has limitations.
BTW, what's an Evesham? ;)
