I've got a section of my site called "I Security Labs" and I'm just starting to work on it and I need a logo. What I need is a picture of a laboratory and possibly someone in a white coat. I haven't got a clue where to get these from. I also don't want to use copyrighted images. Can anybody help me find the image I want. If I get it, I can work on it, adding my logo in one of the corners and making it better. Thanks.

Go to Google, Go to the images tab, type in laboratory, a few you might be able to use

It usually tells you if the image is copyrighted, though if you download it to your host and attribute it you shouldn't have a problem. you could always ask the site owner

Hmmmmm this is a tricky one. Google states This image may be subject to copyright. when you view a picture to avoid any blame. Unless you have had some site conent ripped off quite blatently (which I have :( ) then copyright issues are taken, generally, with a pinch of salt by most people. Probably best to contact the owner of the image before displaying it IMHO. If your really stuck, then why not phone a hospital in your area that has a lab, and explain what you need the picture for and ask if you can take it, or if they have one you can scan and use?. There are a lot of royalty free photo sites on the web but generally few are free and the ones that have free content come with some sort of catch. HTH

Your welcome, glad I could help you out. Your site is developing nicely and you'll not have a shortage of visitors looking and learning about the real security threats and the dangers of the Internet, and hopefully protecting themselves. Good luck with it in the future.

Any info. on the software required to achieve that Oracle. Looks good, I suppose it's easy when you know how.

I use Photoshop 7. It is a professional package and is priced for that market. It has recently been upgrade to Photoshop CS . Again the price reflects the market. It is the industry standard and used by most, if not all graphic designers, including the Webuser team. Of course there are many other programs available on the market...Photoshop Elements and Paintshop Pro to name but two which are much more reasonable priced.

I could do with a program like that because when I resize my images they always go all funny and I need something to enhance them. I just use Paint at the moment. I have got Arcsoft Photostudio 2000 and Ulead Photoimpact 8 SE on disk. Are they any good?

Hi Owen,
PhotoImpact 8 is an adequate program (I reviewed it in Amateur Photographer, October 2002), which will offer you more than Paint. It is very similar, in scope, to Paint Shop Pro and like PSP somewhat emulates the big one Photoshop.
Regarding resizing of images; downsizing is usually performed without a problem. However, increasing the size of an image can cause problems in that (depending on the start/finish sizes/resolutions) blocking can occur in the final image.
There is software specifically for increasing the size of images but this is of a Pro nature and is priced accordingly.
TFC Nothing is a problem for me...

I find Photoshop elements is pretty good. Its a cut down version of its Big Brother Photoshop. Obviously is not as versatile, but its not as expensive either ;-) It cost me about £79.00 a year or so ago I think. You can create animated gifs and shrink graphics to a good file size as well. Hopefully when the patent expires on the LZW compression used in GIF's, then the prices of graphics packages should fall (well so they say anyway.. it expires in the UK the middle of 2004 I think)

I think I might give it a go. I'll get my 300 page instruction manual out and start reading. Photoimpact looks a bit to advanced compared to paint.

I would highly recommend you go and get Serif's PhotoPlus 5.5 I do a lot of graphic work and I've found this program more than adequate.
This is the best free image editor there is. It's very powerful and versatile. It will allow you to create as complicated image as you will want. It's very much like Jasc's Paint Shop Pro.
