XP installation issue
      #309528 - Sat Oct 14 2006 12:33 PM

Apologies in advance for the haziness of the problem, but this isn't my PC I'm trying to fix.
I have tried to start up my friends machine under every mode imaginable, but with no joy. It keeps defaulting to the options Windows XP Pro and Windoes XP Pro Setup. When it looks like Winsows is going to run it stops with the message <Windows Root> \system32\hal.dll is either issing or corrupt. I don't have to hand the original XP disk loaded onto the PC, but do have a XP Home disk my friend now wishes to install, and is quite happy to lose everything on his computer to get this fixed. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks in advance,

Spookle

Have a read of this page

I would suggest that you follow the last suggestion for slaving the original drive to a second hard drive and copying the hal.dll back to the first drive
