Blueyonder FTP problems
      #309514 - Sat Oct 14 2006 11:04 AM

Apologies if this post is in the wrong section!

The problem I have is that while I can access (login) my blueyonder FTP webspace (set up last week through there selfcare, it will not let me upload anything to it by any means. ie Through Open FTP in IE6 OR IE7, numerous FTP programs, etc. It keeps telling me I require permission all the time.

Kinda desperate as the guys at Blueyonder were not very helpful as they told my wife (I'm deaf, so she does the telephone calls), that Blueyonder FTP is not compatible with IE7! So I removed all traces of IE7, reinstalled IE6... and still the same problem. Even tried it through Firefox with no results.

I've just done a website recently for a small community group whose FTP was also blueyonder and I had no problem uploading files to it! format is ftp.<alias>.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk and mine is the same with, obviously, a different alias.

Scratching my head big time here and I'm wondering if someone might be able to shed some light on it for me!!

I refuse to call Blueyonder again as my wife has already made two phone calls to them totalling 1 and a half hour and the call is not free.

I REALLY appreciate any help. If your require any information that you think will help anyone's investigation, please let me know.

Many thanks

Do you have a firewall on your pc and if you do, have you allowed access through it from Blueyonder? Have a look at your firewall log to see what's been blocked lately.

Many thanks for your quick response!

Below is a snapshot of the error message I receive.

I've just tried turning off Firewall completely (Windows and F-Secure) to see if this made a difference. Unfortunately I'm still having the same problem!

Any other information I can provide that may help?

Thanks once again and look forward to your replies.

.
Forgot to mention that I also tried the recommended ftp address by blueyonder for uploading to my webspace - ftp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk, (Firewall turned off completely) with the same error message....

I'm a complete lost!

It looks as if you have a file index.html already on the server and you are trying to overwrite it. Can you log onto your webspace and try and delete that file? It may be a Read Only file and that is what is causing the problem.

Thanks again for your quick response!

I used index.html (in the screenshot) as one of the many files I tried to transfer (tried mp3 / text files, etc. etc.). index.html is on the ftp (its a blueyonder selfcare index page), I altered the files properties (write/read, etc.), but permission is still denied when I tried to delete the index.html (and indeed any other) on the ftp.

Root directory just contains a logs folder. The logs folder contains index.html and an access log (winRARed).

Yet the other ftp webspace I uploaded files to as mentioned in my first post I had no problem accessing to upload/download files! With this ftp - I just used the copy and paste method with no problems.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is something ridiculously simple I've missed but no matter what angle I look at the problem from - I can't see a solution!

I assume it takes your logon name and password OK but it's when you come to upload a file then it gets nasty with you.

Would it help if I had a go at uploading to your server. This does of course mean you would have to give me your logon details via PM and I would quite understand if you didn't want to go down that road. If you are interested in tha option send me a PM.

Yourself and another member at byforums have both tried uploading to my ftp with exactly the same error: permission denied. So Blueyonders theory that my current browser, IE7, is causing the problem, is utter rubbish!

My wife made another two phone calls to them yesterday, totalling just under two hours and on both occasions, got cut off without even speaking to an advisor.

Well, I've sent them a "nice" email outlining the problem and EVERYTHING that myself and other people have tried with a few choice words with regards to the appalling present customer service helpline....

Wait with anticipation the response I get.

I'm sure this will make you feel a whole lot better - just think what it will be like when they merge the Telewest and NTL help desks.

The merger of Telewest and NTL fills me with dread...

I used to be an NTL customer about three years ago. Long story (wrong package installed, bills, poor customer liaison, etc, etc.), but my solicitor was involved and after one years battle, NTL backed down without one single apology.

My philosophy on life is that if I've done something wrong, I'll hold my hand up and admit it. If I know I'm 100% right on something then I'll fight tooth and nail.

Anyhow, I've not heard from blueyonder, although customers are supposed to get a response to emails within 72 hours.

Well I finally received an email from blueyonder web team....with no apology re: customer services. But they have sorted out my ftp except I had to email them again as they had altered the log-in details. Received another email with the supposed login.... and the ftp STILL won't let me log in! Grrrr

Apparently, the required folder - htdocs - was missing when the webspace was created and they said that "someone" must have deleted it! Hello? It was never there in the first place!

Getting rather peeved now....
