Hi I have attempted to reinstall XP following webuser project issue 142 to the letter. When I get to section 3 to format the unpartitioned space using the NTFS file, it just sits at 0% and does not move, I left it for about 30 minutes AM I doing something wrong ? Any Ideas please or help will be much appreciated Cheers Steve

From what you have said I doubt you are doing anything wrong. When formatting a drive, in the windows set-up or elsewhere the format should move off of 0% within 60 seconds even on the largest drive and it's usually much quicker than that. I wouldn't want to rush judgement but from the info you've given the most likely cause is a faulty hard disk. Have you tried to do it more than once? If not try it again it could have been a one off glitch.

Find out what type of hard disk it is by taking the side off your case. You may need to take the drive out to see.
Then go to the manufacturers website and look for a "hard drive diagnostic utility"
Download it and creat a bootable floppy disk.
Run the program to check the hard drive for errors.
If it reports OK, most of the utilities come with a little program to format the drive. Use that, then Widows formatting.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Did you first create a bootable floppy disk? If so, where did you get it from?

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
