I've been considering them myself - reviews on many sites look very favourable, and prices seem good.

Bear in mind that the prices you see include a discount, I think for the first 3 months.

After the initial discount period ends, some ISPs (AOL, Toucan, Tiscali etc) are cheaper, but none have as many good reviews as Eclipse.

I'm currently paying £15.99 per month with Toucan's 'unlimited' 2mb package - although if you transmit more than 1gb in data in a one-week period during the hours of 6-11pm, you get put in the 'heavy user' section and have to fight for bandwidth with their other heavy users. Other than that, Toucan are very good.

I'm very tempted by eclipse's Option 2 Evolution package - £18.99 per month (after the 3 month discount) and peak-time cap of 30gb per month. Sounds perfectly fair!

Have a good read through the Eclipse website and see what you think. I am very tempted, though! http://www.eclipse.net.uk

It is subject to a fair use policy, which means you have a certain allowance per month during 'peak times', which is 6pm-midnight every day. I'm not sure whether they'd charge you extra or just make you fight for bandwidth with other heavy users if you exceed the cap, although the allowance is 40gb on the package you mentioned, and I think most people would be pretty hard pushed to exceed that in one month!

Outside peak times, your downloads and uploads are totally unrestricted.

I have decided that I am going to sign up to Eclipse. I'm just hoping that Toucan will agree to give me my MAC code, which they may not do as they are not signed up to the OFCOM code of practice, which I didn't know when I signed up to them.

If not, then it'll be Dialup til I can get it all sorted!

The allowances with Eclipse are very generous, and although they are a little more expensive than Toucan after the intial 3 month period, it's only by £3 per month, and I'm sure it'll be worthwhile - especially if my line can achieve anything near the 8mb maximum!

If you haven't already signed up, I would tread with care! I have just read on another forum some things that have REALLY put me off the idea of eclipse. I'd imagine it'd be frowned upon to name the forum or post a link to it here, but anyway, it's a site called ispreviews - google it and check out the forums.

I've decided after all that I'm gonna sign up with AOL when I finally free myself from Toucan - discussed it at length with some friends who use AOL and couldn't say anything overly negative about them. 1mb connection, wireless router free and genuinely unlimited usage for £14.99. And there is apparently a way to bypass AOL's software, which is a bonus!

I signed up to Eclipse about two months ago after being with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange for over five years.

I've gone from 2.2 meg to on average 6.4 meg bandwidth.

The service has been excellent and their customer service is first class.

The 'My Eclipse' feature on the website allows much flexiblity to controlling your ISP requirements.

Check them out.

I use Eclipse and I've had no problems. I reccomend using their service.

I've been on the "Evo 1" option for a couple of months and I'd rate it as Ok, nothing more, nothing less.

On the minus side, the connection sometimes just stalls for no apparent reason at about 7pm and I have to reset the modem then reconnect. I've seen the same problem mentioned at the ADSLguide forum - no solution was forthcoming. That's the forum which convinced me to sign up with Eclipse in the first place... only to see many of the existing Eclipse users abandon ship shortly afterwards citing poor quality service.

On the plus side, even though Evo 1 has the lowest priority in the Evo pecking order, I haven't noticed any drop in speed at peak times.

well i have signed with eclipse and ever since i have been getting random disconnections for no reason theye told me that this is normal (?) and it should clear up when the line sorts its self out well after 4 days it hasnt and now they tell me that i must have a bad filter even after my pointing out to them that i have had the same filters for 3 years with no problems until i joined eclipse they still say its must be a filter so now i am going to buy new filters and replace my old ones.

i even gave eclipse the error msg i am getting (0721 remote computer would not respond) and they still say its a problem at my end i have informed them that i will replace the filters clear my cookies/temp files uninstall the modem and reinstall it and if that doesnt work it is down to them and i will cancel the contract if the problem isnt sorted *sighs* wish i had stayed with onetel now !.

Your broadband connction is only as good as your telephone connection as all are provided by BT. At the moment the mail service with Eclipse is crap and has been for the last 3-6 months they claim a lack of capacity, but I find it difficult to beleive after 6 months. You know its bad when your customers tell you that your mail service is rejecting mail to you.

Be aware that Eclipse is and has for over two months been unable to provide a reliable POP3 email service. Its Status/Outage board is updated WEEKLY!!!!
It took several weeks before the problem was even acknowledged.
The techniocal help is OK, however the customer service is based upon the premise that the Customer is always wrong, and it's offensive to suggest that Eclipse might be anything less than perfect. They tend to major in the snotty response style of customer care.
Overall it's a curate's egg of a broadband provider.

The eclipse POP3 mail service has been a problematic for nearly a year.

I have had the same experience with customer service. They nearly always say they that you are wrong and they "cannot replicate the problem". Very frustrating.

According to the status page, they are updating the hardware on 2nd Feb 07. If it doesn't improve considerably then that's it.

From my experiences from the last year, I would not recommend them to anyone.

I have to agree with simeywimey. The Eclipse mailserver suffers problems daily (things haven't improved since the Feb 2007 upgrade). However, Eclipse have nose-dived in terms of reliability, which is my main reason for posting today.

In Feb 2007, we were disconnected for 14 days due to a fault at the BT exchange. Sure, this was a BT problem, but Eclipse were the only people able to push the problem through to it's resolution. I phoned Eclipse daily for updates on the situation & progress was slow. ETAs were given many times, but never met. At one point, the Eclipse technician told me to stop phoning... which I thought was a bit rich considering we're an IT business dependent on the Internet.

Yesterday's 6 hour outage was the last straw for us though. Although we've been with them since Sep 2003, Eclipse weren't interested in keeping us a business customer. Needless to say, I requested our MAC code & are off to find someone able to provide a reliable business broadband service. I can hardly wait!
