Advice on new parts
      #306388 - Sun Sep 24 2006 03:44 AM

Hi all, my trusty P4 has died on me leaving me with the heatbreaking task of throwing it in the bin. What i need is for some advice on the many different options i now have with the upgrade. Im going for a new cpu, mobo, ram and graphics.
Id like dual core, SLI or Crossfire with at least 1 gig of DDR2. Im not to bothered if its AMD or Intel as im looking for the best possible value for money. Ill also need a good quality (hopefuly comparible with my 6800 ultra) PCI-e graphics card.
Now for the tricky bit, i only have £400 at most to spend so any magicians in here feel free to cast a spell (a good one mind ).
I hope someone here can help.

Can't you keep your current graphics card? Possibly even the RAM?

I could yes but that would mean that i have to upgrade again possibly in the near future. Taking the plunge and getting newer technology now means im all set for newer games and software .

Thanks again Jockwav. Im now waiting for my new pc to be delivered .
I got an Asus P5N32SLE Se Deluxe mobo
An EVGA GeForce 7950 GX2 SuperClocked 1024MB graphics card (3rd down)
P4 Duo 2 e6600 cpu and 2 gig of DDR2 ram.
It was a little more than i would have liked to have spent (well,,,,,a lot more ] but graphics card is one of those 2 in 1 jobbies so i can just buy another one later and then i have quad SLI for not much money
My only concern is that it will be out of date before the spit on the stamp is dry but hey, thats computers .
Thanks once again for those links Jockwav and id value your opinion on what ive bought

Hi OurStanley. To be honest i didnt want to take the risk. I couldnt find a single person who has heard of Tescobox and i must have phoned a dozen pcs shops, none of whome could see how they can do it for that price.
Still, knowing my luck Tescobox is probably a legit site and ive just spent way over the odds
