Hi,
OK, in a nutshell. I bought a domain a couple of years ago with www.uk-cheapest.co.uk as it was a couple of quid for two years and my understanding was that they charge nothing if you want to leave them.
It expired, and they never answered any emails and it would be a tenner for the year to renew, so I moved to www.oneandone.co.uk. I filled in the 1&1 form, clicked that I was the owner of the site and was of the understanding it would just transfer (stupid me).
No, I got a 'IPSTAG transfer' form to print and send to uk cheapest. I did that and it was ignored. I did it again registered post and was ignored. Then Emailed, and was told to change it myself from the control panel... which would cost a tenner.
Nominet said they can bypass this, but it will also be a tenner.
I just want to make sure I've got that... When you buy a really cheap domain, the providor will still own it after it expires and will charge you whatever they want to renew/release it, and the cheap price is a come on.
Other companies will happily take your cash for a domain they can't host, knowing they'll give you nothing for that money.
So, I've basically been tricked and can't do anything... yes?
For the record, we're talking domain only, I point it to free space (or used to) and the domain was www.followyourstar.co.uk.
Thanks.

I wouldnt say you have been tricked - but it does seem like you dont read the terms and conditions of anything until afterwards - and when its too late .
You agreed to certain stuff when you registered the domain(s) and to be honest the best thing you could do is learn from it and write it off to experience .
For what its worth - you cant actually buy a domain - for want of a better description you only rent the use of the domain and its only yours to use while you continue to pay for it .
Dont blame me - i didnt make the rules :-)

Oh, I see.
In my defence, I do read terms and conditions. Of course, when you read terms and conditions, you should also look up words you don't know. I think when I signed up, to change nameservers is free... and I just assumed that was who is holding the domain for me, rather than to do with redirection.
Thanks for the reply. S'only a couple of quid I guess.

Pulled this off their website for you some comapnies charge you to release you name to another company.
http://www.uk-cheapest.co.uk/support/esu...id=51&nav=0,21 How much does it cost to transfer a .uk domain name from uk-cheapest? SolutionWhen you register a domain name we provide it with free email and web forwarding.
There are no costs to change the forwarding options neither are there any costs to change the nameservers.
There should not be any need to transfer your domain name away from uk-cheapest as you are free to use it with any host of your choosing without additional costs.
If you insist that you wish to transfer your .uk domain name domain name away from uk-cheapest (by changing the IPSTAG) there is currently a one-off admin charge of £10+VAT. You simply login to your Domain Control Panel and action this change from there.
