I have a home PC with Windows98SE and IE 6 set up for 2 user profiles. From within one profile I installed the useful Google toolbar and everything seems fine for searching in IE under that profile. Coincidentally or not, when my wife logs in under her profile she now:
a. CANNOT use the Google toolbar - entering a search term and clicking on 'Search web' or any other function doers not display search results; also
b. CANNOT use the Google web site - she can display the google.com and google.co.uk web sites but nothing happens at all when she clicks on 'Search'. Some of the links around the page do not work either. Searching using Google under my profile is fine (that is also where it was installed from)
I've un-installed the Google toolbar and re-set all her browser settings but this hasn't made any difference. Are there any keys in the Registry that need to set (eg, any of the default search keys under Internet Explorer - registry help is appreciated, I'm pretty confident of editing it). It seems that there is something preventing the display of search results. Any other help will be much appreciated, if I could offer a prize for a solution I would!
Cheers

Did you install the Toolbar as an administrator?
You may have to log on as as the administrator for the program to work correctly

Hi, thanks for the reply. In Win98SE there are no other roles other than 'user'. I've installed the toolbar when I've logged in as my user. If the toolbar hasn't been designed for PCs with multiple users in mind then fair enough (plenty of other apps have been designed to be used in this way and they work perfectly well so I'm assuming it's relatively easy technology) but what I don't understand is why she can't use the WEBSITE. It just doesn't do anything when she clicks on 'Google Search' or any of the other buttons including most of the links. It doesn't attempt to find a page, it doesn't hang, and it's certainly not the connection (broadband). It's a mystery!

You might want to check the hosts file to make sure that you have got it blocked for your wifes profile, and also make sure you haven't got a pop up stopper that is preventing it
Finally as a last resort, you might want to try re-creating your wife's profile

Hi, thanks again. Tried all that (checked hosts file - only has one entry, MSN auto search...), also, checked websites in Restricted Zones and nothing there. Checked my pop-up killer (NoAds) and that doesn't contain any entry for Google. What I have done is changed the default search option in IE so when she clicks on the IE Search button Google appears instead of the incredibly inferior MSN Search (you can probably tell - I'm not a major fan of MSN ;o) ). However, when she performs the search a script error appears, I hit 'Cancel' and then the Google page appears in a box and she can search from that! Strange! I think i might take your advice and create a new profile for her and delete the current one (she'll only moan coz I've changed something.. ;o) ). Cheers. Still a mystery though.
