Audio / mpeg problems

I am currently trying to put audio files on a web site, so that people can open them in Real player. However, when the file {mp3} is clicked and Real Player opens, it tells me that there is an audio/mpeg issue. I am a beginner with audio issues and so would welcome help in solving this problem.
