Touchpad not working

Can't seem to get touchpad working but have checked all settings and all seem ok. Any ideas???

You haven't stated which laptop you have and how old it is.

Have you removed any entries from start-up (msconfig)?

Has the machine been dropped or given rough treatment?

Hi, the laptop which is a Toshiba Equium L20-197 has never been dropped or damaged and nothing has been removed from msconfig. Had the sensing area adjusted tonight and it seems to be ok at the moment but it has been intermittent before.
