I use BT Yahoo! dial-up and there would be no benefit in putting the number in Family and Friends as it's a free number. The PAYG number is a local or lo-call number so there wouldn't be much benefit in putting that in Family and Friends either, even if it's possible, which I doubt. I'm not prepared to give out BT access numbers on a public forum, so I suggest that either you or your friend contacts BT to find out what they allow.

Your friend will probably have to register for BT Dial-up via this page . . . . > BT Internet - Pay As You Go .
Of course you will be able to add this number to your her Friends and Family and even as a 'Best Friend' to qualify for the 20% discount.

This page might be easier to register for PAYG from. There are some numbers that you can't add to Family and Friends, so I'd definitely check with BT that you can add a PAYG number to it.

In lieu of Madeline's response overnight Paddy, the link does work. You can also get it from Fusion's earlier reply and link.

Just for the record Madeline
Quoted from BT.com:
What numbers can I choose as my BestFriend?
"You can nominate a UK geographic number commencing 01 and 02, a UK mobile number, a Personal Numbering Service number, a 0845 number, a Schools Internet number (0820), a pager number (most 076 numbers) some 0844 09* numbers or some 0871 numbers or a New Voice Services number (most 055 and all 056 numbers). You cannot choose an international number".
However
If you choose to use the Auto Update facility:
What numbers are included in Friends & Family Auto Update?
"The numbers chosen are your 5, 10 or 15 most called eligible numbers. These can be any combination (depending on your BT Together Option) of International, fixed UK geographic or UK Mobile network numbers. Friends & Family Auto Update excludes non-geographic calls (0845, 0870), Premium Rate Services, calls to the Internet, Information and Paging Services".

Thanks. I wonder why you can't add 0845 numbers if you use Auto Update? I find this bit of the T&Cs for Auto Update slightly ambiguous:
Quote:
Certain numbers are excluded from Friends & Family Auto Update:
Most Number Translated Services numbers (e.g. numbers beginning 0845 and 0870) are excluded from both the Calling Circle and as BestFriend. Section 2 of the BT Price List gives details of the excluded numbers. Exceptionally, 0845 numbers are excluded from the Calling Circle but such numbers can be nominated as the Best Friend
By the way, the link I gave still works for me. Madeline.

As the lady is now in the UK, i registered for her and got her username and password and then downloaded the software to a USB stick, ithen installed it on her pc but when it dialled out it gets to verifying username and password, then it says that one of those is incorrect, so i tried changing the password on their site back at my house, and went back but i still get the same.
Any ideas?

It could be a server error which would eventually put right. I've seen the same thing, but with a different ISP. I'm with BT Yahoo! and I couldn't get on with their software at all, so I dumped it and set up the connection myself. If you want to try this, go to Control Panel>Network Connections>File>New Connection and follow the prompts on the wizard, choosing these options "Set up my connection manually" and "Connect using a dial-up modem". Be sure to have the user name and password correct and in upper or lower case as appropriate, also the dial-up number of course! There's a page with 2 boxes "Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer" and "Make this the default Internet connection" and I had to tick them both as it wouldn't work otherwise. Maybe that was because there are 2 users on this PC, but I'd tick them both anyway. On the last page there's an option to have a shortcut on the desktop. The connection can be accessed from Start>Connect To, so your friend might not want a shortcut on the desktop too.

You're welcome, I hope you can get the connection working. If not, you'll have to contact BT about it. I'm not on PAYG, but there's a service status number you can ring to see if there are any problems at their end. I don't think there can be any at the moment as I'm not having any trouble, the number's 0800 777 7731 and it's just a recorded message which is updated frequently, I think you press option 1. If you can't get it sorted, post back and I'll try to think of something else!

All sorted now many thanks, we eventually ordered a disc from BT website and it installed straight away. Just find it a little weird that the software itself off their site would not install.

That's great, thanks for the feedback! Perhaps the download from BT's site had somehow become corrupted.
