Just read a review of the 'Wisecroft Ripper' and wonder if anyone thinks this piece of kit may help solve my problem. I listen a lot to DI Radio on Winamp and can save to my PC any tracks using 'High Criteria' Total Recorder. Unfortunately my Sony Net MD player/recorder will not record these to disc, although it will play the tracks through my PC. I guess its the different file formats, but as I am a bit of a novice in this field and do not understand the difference between them all, I am confused! Can anyone help?

The man(music links) you require to inform you about Wisecroft Ripper is unavailable online at the weekend. Unfortunately I don't think he will be putting an appearance in now until the new year but I know the product is highly recommended by him. Other users may like to express an opinion for you hopefully.

Hi geckosal501,
I take it you're using the supplied USB patch lead to connect between your Net MD and your PC, are you also using the OpenMG Jukebox or Sonic Stage software provided? It's this cable & software combo that enables you to record to the MD at up to 32X the speed of linear recording methods (64X with the top-of-the-range models, like the MZ-N910
.
Also, not all the NET MD models support MP3/WMA/WAV files, but the MZ-N910, MZ-N10, MZ-N710, and the MZ-N510 do.
If not, another way of recording to MD is via the usual sound outputs on you PC's soundcard and sound-in on the MD. Use a media player and create your playlist, hook up the MD and record direct from the soundcard or via an Hi-Fi system.
It takes as long as the tracks you're recording, and it isn't a digital transfer, merely analogue - unless one has a digital optical I/O on your soundcard and a digital optical patch lead (which should have come with the player).
Good Luck!

Surprise surprise, Our Stanley (and I'm not going to say in a funny voice that I've got a silly rear ). Just one day this week though.
Judging from TFC's reply, I'd say you don't need Wisecroft Ripper, GeckoSal, so that's a few more pennies for last minute Christmas shopping.
I use it mainly for converting "Real Media" files (*.ra *.rm *.ram where "*" represents the filename) to MP3 because the "Real" format won't play in Windows Media Player and can't be directly burned to CD.
It looks as if you're probably sorted now, but I'll be happy to help in any way I can if you're still having problems after the new year, though I'm sure you'll find plenty of help before then. I'm not the only one who knows about these things.
There is intelligent life on Earth, but I'm only visiting.

Thanks for your advice Guys and the compliments of the Season to you. My Sony MD player is MZ - N510. And yes I am using the Sony software. Tonight I have just listened to and downloaded 4hrs from DI FM on Winamp via High Criteria Total Recorder. I can listen to this on any of my media programmes but cannot record it to mini-disc. The message I am getting from the MD Centre is that it does not support this type of file. Apart from following your suggestion of recording direct from the soundcard (and I will need another optical cable to connect from S/C to MD) is there any other alternative? If not, then shelling out £130 for the MD was a complete waste. Maybe products should be advertised thus: Great value 50" TV for all your football viewing (but only if you support Man. Utd.) or Special Offer on Mega Hi-Fi - was £2000, now only £200. Fantastic surround sound (only works with Kylie CD's). Your further comments would be appreciated. PS. Would you care to make me an offer for a second-hand Sony MD? Cheers, Bob.

Howdy Fat Controller. Having checked both Total Recorder and Sonic Stage, the files are WAV. I was under the impression that these could be recorded. Cheers, Bob.

Well, according to the literature they can; .WAV, .WMV & .MP3 files are all compatable (allegedley).
My current MD doesn't offer this facility so I can't help beyond suggesting contacting Sony.

OK. Thanks for your help anyway. Will get in touch with Sony and ask for a refund, I think! Cheers, Bob.
Just been on to their support web-site to check it out. This must be the answer :- "SonicStage 1.5 is not compliant with all WAV file formats. WAV files imported to SonicStage directly are sampling files of linear PCM, 16bits, monaural/stereo and 32KHz/44.1KHz/48KHz." So, basically it is as I said earlier (See thread). I dont like Man U or Kylie. Well, Ok I do like Kylie (but not particularly her music - and on that note!) So, Great Fat Controller, what about MP3 Players? Could that be the answer?
