Just one thing to note, if you upgrade to Mailwasher Pro (or install the trial version) it would be a wise move to close the preview pane that appears below the list of emails. Previewing messages like that is no safer in Mailwasher than it is in Outlook Express.
The option to turn it off is listed under View on the top toolbar.

Sam,
As I understand it In Mailwasher the preview pane or the preview window open the mail in either a raw-text mode or a filtered text mode. Neither activates web bugs, virus programs, worm programmes, scripts or tracking links.
The message is brought to your computer in a text format and is not able to cause any action to be taken on your computer. The mail actually exists both on your ISPs server and on your computer.
In Outlook and other programmes mail is brought down as HTML and that allows all the nasties to execute just like visiting a spammers web page. There is usually an option to view the mail as plain text but it isn't 100% safe like Mailwashers preview. You can set Outlook to leave a copy of the mail on the ISPs server too, it just isn't the default.
This is the link to the Mailwasher FAQ.
Joe.

Yep, well I thought that previewing messages in Mailwasher would be safe too. I was checking a message like that one day when up popped a Norton Antivirus quarantine window telling me that it had intercepted a virus coming via Mailwasher. It could have been the case that Norton AV was being over cautious, but I've steered well clear of previewing messages ever since. Better safe than sorry

I'm currently using version 3.4.0.5300 so it looks as though you have fallen behind somewhat.
Nick Bolton who originally wrote the programme promised that registered users of the free version could up-date free to the Pro version when the current owners Firetrust was established. So you will have to ensure that you are indeed registered, usually you can determine this if there are no adverts present but you will also need the registration details. The other thing you will have to check is that the offer isn't time limited. Check this at the Firetrust Site here.
Hope this helps,
Joe.
