secure logon in OE
      #29944 - Fri Dec 19 2003 08:35 PM

I have a problem with the secure log on, requesting my password for both e-mail accounts even though the "remember password box" is ticked.
I think my isp p/gen may have caused it when i downloaded their software.
Is there any way of stopping this password box from appearing?

Would a hijack log be of any help?

Ok I'm afraid that there is a little work to be done

Restart your computer in Safe Mode
Go to Start | Run
Type in regedit

Find the folllowing Key in the Left Pane

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider

Right click Protected Storage System Provider

Click Permissions.

Press the Advanced button.
Put a checkmark in the Replace permissions on all child objects..... box and press Apply and OK.

Ensure that the currently logged on user shows Full Control in the Permissions column and click Yes if you are prompted when resetting the permissions.

Double click Protected Storage System Provider to expand it
Right click and delete the subkey of all users that have this password retention problem.

Exit Regedit and restart the computer.

Now Open Outlook Express
Click Tools | Accounts | Mail Tab
Highlight your account and click Properties
Click the Server tab.

Enter the Password and select Remember Password.

Press OK and Close.

Restart Outlook Express.

Press Send and Receive on the Tools menu to verify that your password has been retained.
