Hi - I used to have some excellent free software called Check-It, I think by Touchstone. It easily checked all hardware, memory etc.etc. but somehow became corrupted and unusable so I deleted it thinking I could re-install it. Sadly I cant find the disc with it on and it appears that Touchstone are no longer marketing a freebie. Has anyone any recommendations for similar software - I know theres a lot of registry stuff about but I was looking for hardware checks.

You could try Fresh Diagnose. It's a free program and I've used free programs from Fresh Devices for some time. Their support is good and they only contact you when there's an update to the program. You have to register with them to continue using the program after a short time, but that's all. Their free programs have no adware, spyware or other nasties and I've found them to be very good. Some programs can be so picky! Try Everest 2.20. There are probably similar programs on Major Geeks if you look at the files on the left hand side of the page. Madeline.

You're very welcome. I hope you noticed this on the Major Geeks site:

Limitations: Lavalys has discontinued the free edition. This is unsupported.
This shouldn't be a problem, but there won't be any updates to the program. Madeline.

A bit late, but another good program is System Information for Windows (SIW). It's both current and free and you'll be able to get updates when they're available. Sorry, I completely forgot about this one before! Madeline.
