Hi Cavaleiro,
I have got allmost exactly the same problem. Only difference is that it happens on trying to change the properties(target) of a link. After editing two or three letters, the properties window freezes, like all input buttons, too. There are graphic errors on the desktop, too. (Moving a window leaves a 'Comet tail', mouse pointer passes underneath the properties window, etc). Killing the DrWatson unfreezes everything, with many of the tray program icons missing. System log shows starting and stopping of a CD-Burning service I cant connect this last one with the context at all- but exactly like you describe , too.
Sorry that I cannot give you any finished solution; I think only that using one of the registry cleaning progs like RegCure, Error Doctor (both freeware) or Registry Repair Pro could perhaps help about Dr. Watson's sense of humor. Cannot give any recommendation about a particular program , have never used registry cleaners till now.
Second seemingly good idea is replacing a evtl missing or corrupt file like described in this thread, from an XP Install-CD by RitchieP ( has a cute avatar, Btw:). Third possibility is a repair installation: (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm)
I understand that for these last two options you need something your PC manufacturer didnt give you - an XP CD
My feeling is, the problem is more probabbly the registry than a missing /corrupt file, though. Anyway cant try all this out till friday evening-am 600 miles from the PC right now. If you allready have a solution or find one, please post it here. I am going to do the same in the lucky case I find it, too.
Cheers, Tihi
