You can try out Linux before installing it.Have a look at this thread started below by metalmickey.

Thanks for that info Madeline. Having read through it all I think I'll stop with Mr Gates for a while. The problem is 'limited channel capacity' - 'My brain' that is, not the computer.

The more robust Linux Distros, such as SUSE and Red Hat are relatively easy to use, but IMHO are not for beginners or those afraid to "explore"

Setting up can be relatively easy , certainly in the case of versions such as Freespire, which can be made to look very similar to Windows.

You will be able to download Freespire, through bittorrent

Thanks madeline but its all german to me,i have d/loaded one called puppy and burned the iso to disk.
So i can boot it up from disk and have a play with it.

Have fun, I will admit that it isn't all singing and all dancing, but it will get you the feel that there is more to computing than just Windows

I hope you enjoy it! Although that site I linked to is a German site, I thought that you could try an English version as there's an 'English' tab you can click on. I haven't tried it myself as I think it would probably take too long to download on dial-up.

At the moment i am trying out puppy linux,which i have heard a lot of good reports about,but it is a bit involved,so not sure if i will like linux or not.
