convert video to mpeg

hi all can anybody suggest any free software so that i can convert camcorder video footage into mpeg so that i can burn it to dvd then watch it on my television thanks.

If want to do it for free, transfer it to your computer using Windows Movie Maker and save it as a high quality (Save to My Computer > Other SDettings > DV-AVI (PAL).

Once this is done, convert it to DVD using AVI to DVD
