Do you have any other firewall protection? if so which one? some are known to work better than others.
Presuming you're not using a router then simply 'allowing' the programme permission to access the Internet should be enough to get you going.
If you are behind some kind of router eg. for wireless then then you are in the 'Port Forwarding' realm, which gets very confusing. It sounds like you could be.. you could try disabling Upnp in your router setting and setting the port number to something a lot higher like 65432.
Azeureus is a torrent programme which some people use for sharing protected materials, therefore since service pack 2 was introduced Microsoft have added so called security features that can prevent such programmes from running by blocking the most common used ports.

Switching off your firewall is definitely not the way to go!!

By nature of what they are Torrent programmes are not the easiest things to get up and running at the best of times! But it can be done! (I am now on my second attempt using uTorrent and have now managed to successfully download a full Linux DVD.)
Have you tried any of the other Torrent clients?
Alot of people on here use torrent and some via routers but I not too well up on those i'm afraid.

If your using a wireless router then its port forwarding you require, unfortunately this is a grey area for me as it can get very complicated and I'm on a direct cable connection.
The best bet would be to see if their site has a forum or help section.

here's a link to azureus wiki.

It's best not to use port 6881 - a lot of ISPs block -it explans wihic ports to use and which to forward.

http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/NAT_problem

the second link is info on port forwarding.

Just can't see very clearly when you're in flight

Well it's a high time that you've found
The same people you misused on your way up
You might meet up on your way down
