I think an update to one of my applications has caused problems with my Windows Media Player Version 10.
I havent had any problems with viewing videos before, however lastnight when I tried it it wouldnt work. When I double click over a video, Windows Media Player opens and then immediately brings up an error message as follows :
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path, verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be available.
WHEN I CLICK MORE INFORMATION THIS APPEARS :
C00D1197: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
Your computer is not connected to the local area network (LAN) or to the Internet. Connect to the network or Internet, and then try again. The path to the file is not valid. If you typed a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) in the Open URL dialog box, verify that the file name is spelled correctly and that the path to the file is correct, and then try again. If you clicked a link on a Web page, the link might not be valid. The server is not available (for example, the server is busy or not online). Try again later. Some network protocols in the Player are not enabled. Enable all network protocols, and then try again. The proxy server settings for the Player are not configured properly. Verify that your proxy settings are correct, and then try again.
I checked everything it told me to check and it was all ticked etc. Then I went to web help and it said on Microsoft webpage that there is no further information for this error!!! which was helpful lol.
So, I reverted back to my old Windows Media Player 9 which hasnt been used for ages to see if it would work and it ran the video's perfect???? When I tried re-installing WMP 10 it all installs perfectly however when I try and play the vids again it brings up the same error message????
I am running xp with service pack 2 full updated. My firewall is Zone Alarm and Anti Virus is AVG. Could these be causing a problem? I have also ran spybot, adaware all of the usual programs and they have not found a virus or anything. I am completely upto date with any windows updates, i just checked.
One final thing, if I right click and save the video and open it after downloading, Windows Media Player 10 plays it without a problem, it seems to be just streaming videos.
Any help would be most appreciated as always.
Thanks in advance

I have solved this one with some searching on Web User forums, so thanks anyway for anyone who happened to be looking into it.
The problem was with the recent Zone Alarm update. It appears that the new update causes various problems if you dont uninstall the old version properley.
Cerdit goes to evilmonkeyzz for this link:)

If anyone has been having problems with any programs and run zone alarm, it is worth having a look at this.
After following the instructions I have managed to uninstall my old version fully and re-install the new version of Zone Alarm and everything is working as it should be.
I just thought I would post this incase someone else is having problems. It is lengthy instructions but DOES work.
Peace
