I tried Outlook Express Backup Wizard when I reinstalled my operating system - worked a treat, and has a free 30 day trial

Outlook Express Freebie Backup is excellent too - and has the added bonus of being FREE

Another free one, Outlook Express Backup Free. You can download a free Outlook Express Restore Wizard there too. Madeline.

As far as I've understood you want to use freeware to backup you mail. But I' d recommend you shareware that can backup/restore almost everything including Outlook mail- Acronis True Image 10 .

I agree that Acronis is a good backup program, but not everyone wants to pay for programs, or maybe they can't afford to, so it's always useful to know of good, free programs. At the moment, I've got ATI 9.0, but I'll probably upgrade to ATI 10.0 eventually.
