Hi ALL, Hope you can advise?
Can someone please give some ideas of services & ISPs (the cheaper the better) that provide broadband through the plug sockets (electricity) or by wireless that DOES NOT require a landline, I do not have access to cable, NOW WIRELESS is not available in the London SW6 area? I am a novice to computers on whole and am not sure if I would be able to use the card-slot for a wireless broadband connection at HOME?
Your Help Would Be Appreciated

Hello David,
Personally I would recomend NTL as a home broadband isp (cable broadband or otherwise called DSL broadband)
There are benifits of having cable broadband rather than BT provided/telephone line broadband as with cable broadband you get a proper true connection without going into the gobbledygook as with telephone line provided broadband its all about the closer you are to a exchange in you're local area which gives you the sometimes varied speeds. You dont get any of that pish with NTL as you are directly connected and have unlimited useage unlike all of the telephone line broadband providers.
As for wireless, what you need to have to have wireless broadband at home is what is called a router. The router is plugged into you're modem and then provides a broadband connection to may it be you're laptop or pc even. Most new latops are wirelessly enabled already so theres no need to have to buy a wireless card for it or you can use a card if you're laptop isnt wirelessly enabled.
I understand being new to computers can seem like a minefield and complicated but you have come to the right place to get advice or problem solving answers. Theres plenty of other people here that will help with any issue you have. I certainly learnt a fair ammount from this forum on alot of PC issues.

So you haven't got a phone line , cable or wireless?
Looks like Satellite is your only option , "cheap" does not come into it http://www.ispreview.co.uk/broadband/sat.shtml

THANKS for the advice BarbusMaximus,
And maxping__:
I do not have a landline, cable or wireless? As for satellite I believe I need a landline for downloading or uploading? But don’t “quote me on this” I also rephrase the word “Cheap” to “Value for money” so thank you for the lesson,
David

Can I go back to your original question a moment. Some electricity companies were experimenting with delivering an internet connection over the power lines a few years back but to my knowledge none of them are actually offering the service yet.
There is equipment available on the market that you can use to route your internet connection round the house via your 240 volt system but that pre-supposes that you already have the connection in the first place.
You can use a 'two way' satellite connection but whilst receiving is comparitively cheap, transmission would need a very large dish in the garden and a significant amount of money.
You could also use a mobile phone as a transmitter/receiver for the internet but that is quite expensive and fairly slow.
Just to check the facts, are you saying that your property does not have either a BT telephone line or an NTL cable connection at all?

Thanks greysts for your info,
There is a telephone line but is not connected (not needed). NO cable at all
To have the line connected it will cost £10 per month (low Income, No Advise Please!) to start with, before I am able to receive broadband via the line? So am trying other possibilities i.e. wireless? /satellite? /plug sockets? But also practical.
Again Thanks

I see your problem but I can't see any practical or financial solution other than to pay your £10 a month. There is nothing else that I'm aware of that would get you a reliable internet connection for less money.
