free orange broadband is it any good?
      #289080 - Wed Jun 21 2006 10:40 PM

I have a new mobile from orange and I have seen they are offering free (up to) 8meg wireless broadband with the priceplan I am already on. Is it too good to be true? I am on NTL broadband at the moment but am not happy with the phone bills at the moment seeing as i hardly use the home phone! I have heard good reports when orange was wanadoo but has that changed anything? The next thing I need to find out is what speed my new bt line would be? How do I find that out? Lots of questions I know but I am seriously considering changing over.

You need to be paying £30 per month with your mobile phone, if so then give it a go.

Well they've been going for years and I find they're a good ISP, yes they've had teething problems with the recent upgrading, but I find them overall very good.

I left Orange the day before they changed from wanadoo I was getting disconnected to often for my liking. As far as I know the £30 offer is for a 2Gb download cap which is/was £14.99 with wanadoo so I don't think it is so much like free BB

however if you already pay £30 per month on your mobile phone then taking the Broadband offer is saving you £14.99 per month.

ok I have no idea if a 2gig cap is too small or not as at present i am uncapped i did a test on the orange site that reconed id use about 1.6 at presant but i'm not sure as i had to estimate a lot of the info i gave it! is there a widgit or someway to monitor how much i use?

I checked out how much I would use before I first went to wanadoo and I was told about 1.2Gb a month so chose the 2Gb limit, at the time their capping was not working and when I found out what a difference BB was my usage monitor NETMETER was constantly going up to 12-14Gb a month

I got a bandwidth monitor day before yesterday and have clocked 0.27 gb so far! so 2 gb is not so great! but I see bts broadband is a little better priced than ntl and speed in my area is not too bad 6.5 as opposed to my presant 2 with ntl. so I might go with them but i'm going to keep an eye on these forums for other suggestions!

You should by now have received your free NTL upgrade to 4mb download and 512 upload. Have you tried rebooting your NTL modem and reconnecting?

I am now considering the free orange offer, currently on BT but just too expensive in todays market, I just wish BT would react quicker to market forces, they done the sane thing with phones when everybody switched they brought prices down.

Any more feedback on wannadoo / orange service levels would be great

If you need to contact them after 6pm then you're directed to India for help, which can be difficult because of the language breakdown, other than that they're probably like every other ISP, you'll get someone who hates them and you'll get another that praises them.

I wouldn't want to push you into them, as that looks daft on the internet, make a decision based on what you're currently paying each month to your ISP including your mobile fees then deduct that monthly payment and if you're better off then give it a go.

A lot are doing FREE BROADBAND !!! WOOOHOOOO
But end of the day you get what you pay for (so if its free you arn't gonna get much service are you)

1- Tech support with 2 hour phone que's at premium rates.
2- Unprodictable speeds and connections (its free what do you expect attitude when questioned)
3- 100,000's of customer clogging the system with very few staff to sort problems out, orders and faults.

So theirs TALK TALK - SKY- ORANGE I've not spoke to 1 happy person who's moved to any of them.

So FREE BROADBAND hmm i'll stick to paid for (pay for what you get) Broadband thanks.

QUESTION does anyone know of an ISP who's support and sales call number are FREE?
And have in house call staff and you don't have to press 1 for this and 3 for that and just wait while we transfer you to this dept etc?

As mentioned above my ISP IDNet offer Free phone customer support, i have never waited more than 5 rings for the phone to be answered and you don't get shoved into a queue you are helped immediately , support is not 24/7 but Simon from CS keeps an eye on the IDNETters forum and answers any problems if he can.
