I have just added a new post regarding this sorry should have repiled to this one. These deals are only for new custoners, if you have been a loyal customer for years, its tough!!

Wrong.
Present customers will get the equipment for free if they renew their 12 month contract. I see this as fair considering the cost of the equipment involved.

Yes, you get the equipment free as do new customers, but if you want to drop your package to their new option I as an existing user you cannot take advantage of any of the offers unless you cancel and rejoin meaning loss of service and email address, even if you remain on your current option the introductory offer is not available to you. My point is why do these companies punish their existing customer base, why not throw them a little bonus for staying loyal from time to time, its easier to retain your existing customers than get new ones. BTs response has made me shop around wheras I would have just carried on with them, they may yet prove to be the best option but now they have turned a happy customer into a disgruntled one.

UPDATE After a third call to BT they have now agreed to supply the new equipment but only if I upgrade to a higher option, however the operator and his supervisor agree that the deal is not as good as that for new customers and have had complaints and fed these complaints back, they also do not have the advertised phone available but will send an alternative and say they will send the advertised one in 6-8 weeks and allow you to keep the alternative. You cannot as an existing customer select a lower option than your current one and get any deal even if your term contract has expired. You must cancel and rejoin with loss of service for two weeks or so. I have elected to take the higher option because I cannot face the ISP switching but still consider it poor for loyal customers
