Text on an image background rarely works, and red text on black doesn't either, unless the black is plain and the text is oversized. I'd seriously reconsider that scheme.

You could look through magazines for inspiration as to what colour schemes work. Most of what works for you on the printed page can easily be transfered to the screen.

Obviously, it needs to be in keeping with the theme/feel of your site, so a plain black background would work (or perhaps a slate grey?), with an appropriate font colour.

You could use tables to create blocks of plain background for the text, while keeping the image background for the rest of the page. My own preference is for plain backgrounds, which some would find boring.

Trial and error, as you know, is the way forward (until experience is gained). Bottom line is; it's your site.

Yeah id listen to The Fat Controller.
Fat Controller said the same thing about my website (www.givemegames.tk)
And I changed the color and now it looks so much better and is great to look at!

By the way darthvader1, tell me what you think about my site, I made a post on it on the Webuser Forums a while ago which can be found at:

I like your site. Personally, I like the colour scheme and background and don't find it at all difficult to read. Must be because I'm used to reading reading stuff with similar themes in Metal Hammer.

I think that it is well designed and mostly is OK to read except the '100 things to do before you die' list, because it is a ling list the red writing starts going a bit fuzzy and hard to read. Other then that it is good. Well done.

Where do I turn off the music?

Your font size is too small on higher resolutions. Also you haven't told us the purpose of the site in advance!

further to your replies on this forum, I don't follow what ty, bk, wot, ya, and dn mean

You're welcome, I'll look forward to seeing more content on there. I like the creepy house at the top too. Unfortunately, that got covered by ads in Internet Explorer, but it's fine in Firefox.
Josh, I didn't find that the writing went fuzzy, must be your eyes!

I wasn't tryin to make it sound like there was a problem with the background and im sorry!
I was just saying that The Fat Controller pointed this out with my website and when I decided to take his advice and change the background I suddenly realised how much better it looked

Just telling you my side of the story and I think your websites very good!
