I'm having some problems with my computer. It's running on a 19" Iiyama screen and also being extended onto a TV screen. When the computer starts up the Iiyama screen displays an error message:
Quote:
Out of Range H 31.2 KHz V 50.5Hz Max 1280x1024
but displays properly on the TV out. This only happens during the BIOS startup and when Windows itself has started it displays on the screen fine (I am using it to write this). When I try to boot in safe mode I get the same error message.
Any ideas on how to make my monitor display what the TV has no problems displaying, the BIOS start up. The reason I need this is because I want to install Vista and would like to do this via the monitor rather than squinting at the TV to do it?
Thanks

The problem lies with the fact that you've set the iilyama screen at to high a resolution for the VGA output from the BIOS. The reason it works on the TV is because your grahics card is pumping TV OUT at a far lower resolution, probably around 50hz but the feed to the screen is 1280x1024. You will need to use the controls on the front of the screen to knock it down to something like 1024x768 or even lower or put up with the annoying error message whilst installing Vista. Can you not remove the error message by using the Exit key on the front of the screen?

No you can't remove it, it's just a black screen and that message (nothing underneath). How can I knock it down using the controls on the front of the screen, I can control colour/contrast/gamma/etc but not screen resolution, am I missing something?
Thanks for helping

Sorry Nanook, I should have asked the obvious question, CRT or flat screen? I'll bet it's flat screen which means the pixel size is preset and can't be changed. However, I'm surprised you can't dismiss the error message.

Yeah it's a flat screen. It's weird because the error has only just started appearing, before it would boot up fine, and I can't see what has changed

Can you return the screen to its factory settings? I once messesd up my screen (crt) and just reset it which cured the problem. Also, my monitor has a software update waiting for it on Microsoft update but i wont use it because last time i updated any hardware using Microsoft, my sound card stopped working. With you saying you cant use it in safe mode, maybe youve inadvertantly updated it and its causung this problem. The_DADDY
