I am having problems recording onto CD-R discs with my Sony DVD -RW DW u10a device. I can record onto RW discs but not ordinary CD R's. This problem has only just started as was recording fine until recently. Have tried new drivers, and cdgone software etc. but no success. Device can read all types of disc. Any ideas??

What software are you using and what discs - and have you tried alternate discs?

Have you changed a setting within these programs to record to CD-RW's? If so you need to change that setting back to CD-R discs.
Other than that it can only be the media that you are using isn't compatible with your burner.

If he has used those disks before it can't be an incompatibility with the media can it? It sounds as though it is the burner itself that is the problem.

Thanks for replies I am not aware that I have changed settings, How can I check to make sure? I have tried other make of CD R and although started to burn it subsequently failed very shortly after starting. Media disc I was using also work with other computers

I'd consider it to be an issue with your drive then, how old is it?

Drive is only 18 months old. I have tried burning at slower speeds just in case there was an issue with that but still no joy

I say there is a fault with the drive, but before you go out and buy a new drive, try a laser cleaning kit for the drive, see if that can resolve the issue.
If not then it's a case of buying a new one.
