Can You Help! Cursor Frozen - Cant access university assignments.

WIN XP SP2
Home Edition
Version 2002

Can you please help me, the cursor on my daughters laptop has frozen and she cant access her university assignments. (That will teach her to make back-up's!!)

I would be very grateful for anyone's assistance.

Does it do it all the time? What happens when you reset the system. Have you tried scanning it for viruses/spyware?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have some more information for you that might help.

My daughter said that she has not used her laptop for two months and that when she turned it on the screen told her the battery needed recharging.

The screen then said that it was hibernating and that when she touched the touchpad the screen came back on again and the cursor was moving.

She connected to the mains to recharge and at the same time whilst waiting for it to recharge loaded a Max Spielman Photo CD.

The CD would not load and that is when the cursor locked.

The cursor has never locked before.

No virus found

I am still not entirely sure what you mean. Has this just happened once or does it happen frequently/all the time. If it has only happened once and scanning showed up nothing then I can't see there being anything to worry about, all computers crash occasionally. If it is doing it all the time, can you try a system restore to a point where it wasn't doing it, assuming its running Windows xp or 2000.

What program(s) did you scan with, are they up to date?

Sorry about all the questions, it's just that as much information as possible is needed about these types of problems as there could be so many different causes.
