The biggest and best reason anyone uses BT as an ISP is consolidation of services and billing....convenience more than anything else.
In saying that the technical support systems and infrastructure that exists is alot more efficient and tends to get to the root problem faster than most other ISPs in my personal opinion. That and the fact that BT broadband customers tend to get better throughput speeds and quality. This is not official of course but companies like AOL will say for example 'yes we will escalate your problem to our second line support' which tends to mean an offline team who have access to the BT wholesale testing tool for IP Stream circuits called Woosh whereas if you call BT the agent is more likely to say 'Do you mind holding for 2 minutes while I conduct a line test' as all BT 1st Line Technical Support is given access to the testing tool and fault reporting tool called eCo (used to escalate faults to BT Wholesale)
So yeah BT gets bad reviews because its an easy target "grr big company must be bad grrr" the fact is other than the cable services BT are the largest Broadband providor in the country and as such are always going to have a larger number of customers complaining about problems but the percentage compared to customer base is likely to be in-line with all ISP's

I've been using them since dial-up and the customer service and broadband itself has been fine. One of my friends is with them and has no complaints either.
They have also reduced my monthly price I think for being with them for as long as I have so there are no complaints from me.

I have used BT for nearly a year now and the price of their broad band is extotionate and the download speed of 2mb is poor; I cant even get that, the best they can do in my area is 1.1. Furthermore, whenever I have had technical problems they seem to conect you with a foreign call centre and besides not being able to understand a word they are saying, they nearly always end up telling you to contact your nearest vendor. I am waiting for my contract to run its course and migrating. Yes; thats right im bound by contract to pay them 17.99 pm even if I no longer use the internet, typical! I am certainly not going to AOL since their software takes over your computer and is difficult to completely remove should you leave them, and thats not all AOL spys on your surfing habits and keeps an updated file on you, and thats not all AOL prevents you from using certain file sharing software and simply will not work, and thats not all AOL actually censors some sites and wont let you directly surf certain sites. So AOL are the last providers anyone would want to sign up with; they are owned by time warner a massive US corporation BT are a grain of sand next to them.
