Hello all, had a series of problems last night that have resulted in a knackered PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was playing eve online yesterday when suddenly the screen went blank, I assumed that I was losing my connection but after a minute or so, the monitor fired back up as if it were on standby. Then a number of hours later it did it again, this time the power light was flickering as was the screen slightly, then came the smell of doom from the top of the monitor. I checked all of the connections and all were fine. All the while I could hear my game was running fine in the background.

I switched the computer off from the front of the machine (didn't shut down just straight off), then got and old CRT monitor from the loft and connected it in. I then got the usual stuff up to the point of asking me if I want to start in safe mode or normal or safe with command prompt etc. I selected safe mode then the windows XP logo came up as usual with the progress bar and then the whole system bombed and restarted. I tried each startup option but nothing helped. I've tried disconnecting everything except keyboard but that didn't help either. CPU fan is running and I gave it a careful hoover out while I had it open, CPU was running at 54 degrees after clean out (was 70 before).

Thanks in advance.

This sounds like the graphic card switching off. Depending on what happened to the monitor, I suppose it's possible it's damaged the graphics card.

Can you give us the specs of your PC please?

The problem is that each choice I make e.g Safe mode, normal mode etc, as soon as I select one the whole thing resets and restarts back to the same screen asking me if I want to start in safe mode again.

Do you think my processor was running too hot before or still too hot after dust removal?
